Helpful Tips for Booking Your Session
You aren’t just choosing a photographer; you are investing in an experience and memories. From inquiry to photos and product delivery, I am here to support you and make sure you enjoy your journey. An amazing experience starts well before the session for photographers. I have invested and continue to invest in professional education, newborn safety, and posing techniques. I am dedicated to crafting and styling the perfect sessions to highlight your family; whether that means identifying a new special portrait location to fit your theme/look, hand making props for a special cake smash theme, procuring one of a kind outfits, felts or props for your newborn session. After your session is completed, you won’t wait what seems like forever for your images. Within 72-hours I post previews on social media. Your full gallery won’t be far behind; I deliver within 2-3 weeks, sometimes sooner! As a mom, I know the value every photo holds. I take care of each client as if these are my family photos. Because my clients become friends and family. Read kind words from past clients here.

Ideally, we would schedule maternity photos for around 34 weeks. You want that little belly to have popped. But do not wait too long! Remember, sessions sometimes involve a lot of standing and walking so you want to be able to enjoy your time. Check out bump to baby packages here! {insert link to investment page for packages}.
Newborn photos are ideally taken in the studio at 10-14 days old. This timeline allows Mom and the new baby to get either breastfeeding or bottle feeding figured out, and hopefully gets us out of the initial days of cluster feeding. But, it is soon enough that they are still super sleepy to achieve those peaceful photos. If you are interested in a lifestyle newborn session we have more flexibility with timing, but the recommended age is 2-4 weeks old so you don’t miss the true newborn stage.
No. I have everything we could possibly need and more. To list a few, the studio is stocked with: headbands, halos, sleepy hats, girl and boy outfits, swaddles, wraps, backdrop fabrics, blankets, faux fur layers, curly wool layers, felted animals/props, flowers, baby beds, cribs, wooden props, buckets, baskets and MORE. If you have a specific theme or color request, you will be able to make those on your session prep questionnaire before your session. You just bring the beautiful baby!
Be ready for the long haul. Full newborn sessions can take up to 3-4 hours depending on feedings and the baby’s sleep. Wrapped mini newborn session can take up to 2 hours.
The best time of day for photographing outdoor sessions is an hour or so after the sunrise, or an hour or so before the sun sets. We call those “golden hours.” With little ones, those times aren’t always the best for them. So, we will work together to identify a location that will work with the timing that works for your family and children.
For newborn sessions, I recommend starting at 9am. This doesn’t require an exhausted Mommy to get out of bed and out of the house too early in the morning. Experience has shown me that we usually have the best luck getting a sleepy baby in the late morning hours. The late morning start time also keeps the attention of sibling toddlers for the family portion.
Maternity sessions can be done in studio, or on location. Your outfit selections may be very different for each type of session. In the studio, bodysuits, oversized shirts, sexy lingerie and sheer layers are an amazing option. I also recommend a snug fitted flowy bottom dress for dress tossing and couples photos. Bonus for studio maternity is the ability for wardrobe changes!
On location maternity sessions have endless possibilities for wardrobe. I suggest starting with your location choice and coordinating with the style or vibe of your location. General guidelines to consider: aim for snug fitted clothing to accentuate your bump; pastel and neutral colors photograph better than bright primary colors; avoid words/saying/emblems on clothing; you don’t have to shy away from patterns and can mix and match, just don’t overdo it! Texture in your outfit selection is always a plus, and layering gives beautiful dimension. I offer styling assistance for all sessions, so always feel free to ask for assistance or advice.
Think neutral! You want the focus to be on the baby, not on your shirt. Newborn family images have three backdrop color options: white/ivory, grey, and black. If you would like to go light and airy with the white/ivory option, I strongly recommend wearing white/ivory or light gray, tan. Given some spunk to your outfit by incorporating different textures in your outfit selection. For grey backdrop, I recommend wearing a shade of grey. For black backdrop, wearing black. The black backdrop offers AMAZING black add white images. Colors aren’t the only thing that are important, we want to make sure you look comfortable. So Mommy, try out that outfit before the morning of your session. Make sure you can move, feel comfortable, and don’t have anything pressing up against your incision or other sensitive areas. Feel free to elect for a dress or a blouse/sweater and jeans. Most of the family portraits will be from the waist up.

Then think season, this will help you identify appropriate types and colors of clothing. It is much easier to style your family session if you choose one piece whether it is your daughter’s romper or Mom’s dress and then coordinate from there! Yes! I am a full-service photographer. So, while I aim to take the best photos possible in camera, I only produce fully edited photographs in your gallery. What does fully edited mean? It means, edited to my lighting, color, and contrast style. So, if your newborn has some blemishes or flakey skin; that will be taken care of and softened. Your toddler has a scrape on their face, or a bruise from a tumble? I will correct that as well. What I don’t do is make your newborn, toddler, or family look fake. I will not make faces wrinkle or contour free. That just isn’t my editing style. I capture and highlight your newborn and family as they are! Which is perfect.
All payments will be made through Shootproof online contract, payment, and gallery delivery services. A non-refundable retainer fee of $100 is due for every session at the time the contract is signed. The balance of your session is due 48 hours before your scheduled session. Pa sales tax does apply.
